I was bit by the travel bug. No, not a mosquito or bed bug but the travel bug. The one that gets under your skin, starts to itch at the most unusual times and won’t stop itching until you scratch it. I blame it all on my dad.
My father was an adventurous man. He would try almost anything, skiing behind a snow machine, camping in the back of beyond, and downhill skiing for the first time when he was 60+ years old. His work took him all over the world and for several years his family (including me) was able to travel with him and live in some of those exotic places so many people just get to dream about. So see, it is all his fault I was bitten by the travel bug (at the tender age of 11) and have this wanderlust to go, to see, to explore, and to experience the world.
I also inherited my sense of adventure from my dad but my husband (Daniel, aka Dan) has nurtured that spirit for adventure from the very day I met him (February 1983). Dan has a keen eye for adventure and he can find it around any corner, whether we are at home, the cabin, or traveling within Canada or exploring far afield.
When Dan and I were still dating we talked about travel. Dan said to me “why would I want to travel so far when I can go see that lake just over there or walk over the hill and see what is on the other side?” No travel bug bite for him. I tried to explain why traveling was so exciting but to no avail, he was not a believer. But I did say at that time “I will be traveling and if you don’t want to come I will find some one who will.”
We did get an opportunity to do a road trip after we had been married a few years. With post secondary schooling behind us, careers well under way and two young children we started our first road trip together. Destination Alaska, via Saskatchewan for a family reunion, Alberta to visit family and northern British Colombia to pick up some family members that would be traveling with us. Well 6 weeks later and nearly home from our inaugural road trip my husband said “Where next?”. He had been bitten by the travel bug too.
In our 34+ years of marriage we have traveled extensively and have experienced many adventures together, both here in Canada (near) and outside of Canada (far). We would like to begin sharing some of our new adventures with you. So come see “What adventure is next?” and see our “Adventures near or far”.
